Will Smith Plans Filming Schedule For Annie Musical
It has been announced that filming for Will Smith and Jay-Z’s remake of movie musical Annie will commence next spring.
The pair are due to produce a revamped version of the 1982 family musical Annie, which was adapted from the hit Broadway show. Aline Brosh McKenna, has been brought in to complete the screenplay, drafted by actress and screen-writer Emma Thompson, and is said to be close to producing the finished script.
Will Smith’s daughter 11 year-old Willow Smith has been cast to play Annie in the film, which has been dubbed a hip-hop remake of the original, set in modern day New York.
Willow, already has a singing career under her belt, with hit songs such as Whip My Hair and 21st Century Girl, so should have no trouble taking on the lead singing role.
Both Willows parents, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have had impressive acting careers, whilst older brother Jayden is also already making a name of himself in movies.
Emma Thompson who has been writing the script for three years has revealed to BBC Newsbeat, that the production team are on schedule for filming to begin at the start of spring: “In the autumn, we get to go to L.A to work with Willow and work more on the script. Jay-Z has already started working on the music. We will start shooting in the spring in New York.”
Jay-Z who’s reworked sample of the Annie musical song Hard Knock Life was a huge hit back in 1998, will be creating all the music for the film soundtrack. It is expected that more songs from the original musical will be reworked for the film, as well as the addition of new songs.
