The Saturdays Sign Huge Record Deal As They Get Set To Crack America
British girl group The Saturdays look set to follow in the footsteps of One Direction and The Wanted as it’s announced they have signed a new major US record deal, which will see them, try to crack the American music market.
The Saturdays formed back in 2008, consisting of members Rochelle, Una, Mollie, Frankie and Vanessa. The group have had a series of chart hits in the UK and Europe, becoming known for their fun pop sound, and sexy dance routines, however until now they have never tried to take their music over to the US.
This summer the girls headed to LA to film a pilot for a reality TV series, which followed the girls as they attempted to crack America. After performing at a range of popular venues, such as the post-MTV Video Music Awards and making numerous TV appearances, the band have managed to secure a US record deal with Island Def Jam and Mercury Records.
Saturday’s star Una, recently spoke to Billboard to discuss the record deal, and the band’s excitement at making it in the US: “We feel like the time is now for pop music coming from the UK, but there’s never been a girl band coming from there since the Spice Girls. We’ve been together a long time now, five years. We’ve always wanted to come out here and go to different territories. We really feel ready.”
As of yet no deal has been made regarding the footage filmed for The Saturdays reality TV series, the band are however hopeful that it will be picked up by a US network as they start to record and release their music in the US.
