Seth MacFarlane Announced As Host Of 2013 Oscars
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has been announced as the host of the prestigious 2013 Oscars.
Seth will front the 85th annual Oscars ceremony, following in the footsteps of last year’s co-hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco.
It is thought that Seth was the academy’s favourite choice for hosting this years Oscar awards due to his growing success over the past year.
This year Seth has made the move into the world of cinema, releasing the comedy film Ted, which went on to become a huge blockbuster hit. On top of this Seth added to his hosting experience by fronting a stint on Saturday Night Live.
Speaking of his delight at been picked for the role Seth revealed: “I was surprised. I have done a fair amount of hosting in the past but nothing of this magnitude. I was very, very pleasantly surprised.”
One thing we can expect from Seth when hosting the Oscars is a lot of humour. Seth is known to be hilarious, and has a bolshy sense of humour as we can see from his popular animated adult cartoon series Family Guy and American Dad.
How far Seth will push the boundaries with his jokes is yet to be seen. When other well-known comedians have fronted such awards ceremonies, their humour has not always been widely well received.
When Ricky Gervais hosted last years Golden Globes, he became the centre of controversy after targeting almost every celebrity in the audience in an array of inappropriate jokes. Fellow Brit Russell Brand also took is comedy too far when he hosted the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, when he labelled former US president George Bush a ‘retarded cowboy’ as well as mocking teen boy band The Jonas Brother’s chastity commitment.
As of yet Seth claims he has not thought of material for the big night, but suggests viewers should expect to see a mixture of entertainment: “It’s the Oscars so you always want a musical component and you want an injection of comedy and so I think I will be a mix of many elements.”
