Rihanna’s New TV Show Suffers Poor Ratings
Rihanna’s much hyped new TV show has got off to a rocky start as poor ratings are revealed.
The fashion show Styled To Rock is executively produced by Rihanna, and see’s wannabe fashion designers battle to win the opportunity of designing an outfit for the star to wear for her performance at an upcoming festival.
The show which airs on Sky Living is fronted by Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts, and sees a variety of guest celebrities make an appearance including Kanye West, The Saturdays and Cheryl Cole.
After three episodes have aired, the viewing figures have been revealed. The first episode drew in an audience of just 95,000, which is much lower than the channel’s usual 153,000 figure. The audience fell even further for the second episode with only 74,000 tuning in to see Rihanna guide the fashion hopefuls. After a huge plug from Rihanna to her 25 million Twitter followers the figures did pick up slightly for the third episode.
It is thought that tough competition from other shows on rival channels is the reason behind the poor ratings. Sky Controller Stuart Boss however, has defended the show’s underwhelming performance by stating: “It was trending on Twitter and Rihanna is the biggest star in the world. Find me a channel controller who would turn down Rihanna I her own series.”
TV critics argue the show is not a success as it’s a somewhat low budget rip-off of similar fashion designing shows such as Project Runway. The focus on the celebrities and their views on fashion shrouds the young aspiring designers, whilst the exciting part of seeing the designer’s creations are presented as a mere side line thought.
Whether or not the upcoming guest appearances can save the show from becoming a complete flop is yet to be seen. Somehow we imagine this wasn’t exactly what Rihanna had in mind when creating the show, and would not be surprised if when the series is over she sticks to focusing on her music rather than further TV ventures.
