Revenge Star Emily VanCamp Plays Down Leading Lady Role
In an interview with The Kansas City Star newspaper, actress Emily VanCamp has played down her leading lady role in ABC’s hit teen drama Revenge, insisting the show is a collaborative effort.
Emily plays character Emily Thorne in the hit US show, a young woman who is determined to seek revenge on those who caused her father’s death, infiltrating a wealthy community in the Hamptons to get even with those who betrayed her family.
Whilst there is no doubt about it that Emily is the main character of the show, she was extremely modest when speaking to the newspaper about her starring role, and being branded the lead: “I think it’s really interesting to say ‘my show’ or ‘I’m a lead of it’ because it is such a collaborative thing… but I am definitely there all the time.”
The second season of Revenge is due to air in the US tomorrow evening; meanwhile the first season of the show is currently being broadcast in the UK on E4. Speaking of the media attention that comes with being an international star Emily said: “We live in a time where the media is a very difficult thing to navigate because it’s everywhere, and I tend to want to be a lot more private with my life. I’ve managed to do that for 10 years in this business.” Emily however went on to reveal that since starring in Revenge it has been more difficult to remain low key: “I’ve found a really nice balance, but this show is a different scale so… I’m trying to figure all that out at the moment.”
Meanwhile Emily has revealed that her new hectic working schedule will also take some adjusting to: “I’m exhausted almost all the time. I keep saying I’m weirdly preparing myself for motherhood because once you can a hold of this sleep deprivation thing I think you have a leg up. And I’m definitely sleep deprived.”
