Penelope Cruz In Talks To Star In Gucci Biopic
Penelope Cruz is said to be in talks to star in Ridley Scott’s daughter Jordan Scott’s new film drama
75 year-old legendary director Ridley Scott was initially planning to direct the film himself, however after the suicide of his brother, and on-going commitments to other directorial projects, he handed over the role to his trusted daughter Jordan for what will be her feature film debut.
Since Jordan has been announced as the new director, rumours have begun to circulate that Penelope Cruz is set to join the cast of Gucci, a film which is expected to tell the real life story of the family behind the world famous fashion brand.
Penelope is said to be favourite to play the dark and gritty role of Patrizia Reggianai, an heiress to the Gucci empire, who was jailed in 1999 after murdering her husband Maurizio Gucci, who was the grandson of the founder of the fashion label.
Reggianai was accused of hiring a hitman to kill her husband, after she discovered he was having an affair with another woman. She was sentenced to 29 years in jail, becoming known by fellow inmates as the ‘black widow’.
Despite being offered parole last year, Reggianai shockingly decided to decline, insisting she would rather stay in jail than leave and have to find a job, saying: “I’ve never worked in my life and I’m certainly not going to start now”.
Prior to Penelope being considered for the role, Angelina Jolie was thought to have been approached for the role back in 2009.
