Miley Cyrus Rejected Lucrative X Factor Judging Role
Speaking to Jay Leno on his Tonight Show, Miley Cyrus revealed that turned down the offer to appear as a judge on the current series of the X Factor USA, as she didn’t want to be a ‘dream crusher.’
The 19 year-old former Disney star admitted to Leno that she chose to reject Simon Cowell’s offer to appear on the X Factor panel alongside himself, LA Reid and Britney Spears as not only did she worry she would be too critical, she also did not want to crush people’s singing dreams.
Miley stated: “I just don’t know if I want to be some dream crusher. Would you really want to sit there as someone is belting their heart out – even if it is like hearing nails on a chalkboard – and then say to them, ‘You suck.’ I have no filter, so I would be scared I would say something and they would go home and say, ‘Miley Cyrus ruined my dreams’. It seems harsh.”
Following Miley rejecting the role, her fellow former Disney star and friend Demi Lovato was chosen for the role of fourth judge, although neither Fox or Simon Cowell have confirmed that Miley was ever offered the role.
Some reports have suggested that Miley has now spoke out about being offered the role before Demi, as she is jealous of the huge positive reaction the public have had towards Demi’s judging style on the show, and that Miley regrets turning the offer down.
