Leona Lewis Opens Up About Fame In Honest Interview
Former X Factor winner turned international singing sensation, Leona Lewis has opened up for the first time about the price of fame as well as her close working relationship with Simon Cowell, in a candid interview with the MailOnline.
In the exclusive interview, Leona admits to feeling lonely as a result of her fame, revealing she struggles to trust people after being betrayed by her former friends. Speaking of her lack of trust she said:
“Who I trust depends on gut instinct. I’ve been let down really badly by a couple of friends in recent years, who I thought were genuine but I then found out were selling stories about me, which was devastating.”
Whilst achieving fame quickly can so often overwhelm and consume many people, Leona has remained grounded and self-assured thanks to her guidance from music mogul Simon Cowell.
Despite admitting she was at first intimidated by Simon, the singer reveals she has formed a close relationship with him; often looking to him for advice whenever she feels the pressure of fame is getting to her.
Another thing Simon Cowell has taught Leona is to stand up for herself, which is clear to see when she explained how she would never let any record label bosses put pressure on her to conform to the generic pop star image and lose weight:
“No one- and I mean no one- has told me to lose weight, and they wouldn’t dare either. I’m never going to be a size zero and I wouldn’t want to be. There’s a tremendous amount of pressure in this industry to be a stick insect but it’s not an issue that concerns me.”
Whilst Leona is arguably one of the best female singers in the world right now, the star revealed she was close to giving singing up for good before she found fame on the X Factor, confessing:
“After leaving stage school, I had several years of working in boring, dead-end jobs to fund studio time so I could record a demo album, but I never landed a contract. Just as I was about to admit defeat and take a break from music to go to university, I was persuaded to audition for The X Factor. Sometimes you just never know where your break is going to come from.”
