A theme amongst the hurtful tweets was that of users threatening to harm both Adele and her baby. For instance one user called VanessaBieber, targeted Adele with the following disturbing message: “Aw Adele gave birth to a baby. Is it fat and handicapped lol? Just murder it already lol.”

Other trolls sickly joked about Adele having better song writing material if her son were to die, or if she suffered from post-natal depression, while others targeted the singers weight, saying they didn’t know she was pregnant because she is so overweight.

Whilst the majority of comments towards Adele were of a happy nature, with fans expressing their joy at her wonderful news, the Internet trolls disturbing attack is shocking and likely to have deeply upset the Grammy-award winner.

What is even more concerning is the fact that there has been a recent growing emergence of Twitter trolls, bombarding celebrities’ accounts with hateful and threatening comments.

Earlier this summer, British Olympic bronze medal winning diver Tom Daley became victim to a vicious attack on Twitter, where a user suggested the teenager’s late father would have been ashamed of his diving performance at the London 2012 games. Despite the user being arrested by police for his remarks this hasn’t seemed to have stopped others from joining in with this nasty trend.
