Halle Berry Talks Making It In Hollywood
Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has opened up to People magazine about the years she spent trying to impress casting directors as she attempted to make it as an actress in Hollywood.
Speaking to People Halle revealed that she began to feel as though she was closely missing out on film roles at the start of her career simply due to the fact appearance-wise she didn’t stand out at auditions.
Halle explained: “I would go on acting auditions, and every black girl would have this long, curly hair, whether it was real or not. And I would go to these auditions and come back with nothing so I had to somehow be different.”
The Hollywood actress went on to state how she soon decided to cut her hair short, in a bid to attract the attention of casting directors.
Recalling the time in 1989 when she went for the big chop, Halle admitted the haircut made her manager at the time furious: “I remember I went up to my managers office and his heart probably stopped beating. He said: ‘You’re never going to work, you’re not what they want!’ And I said, ‘Good. Let me be something different then.”
It was not a coincident that just two weeks later Halle landed the role of a model on US TV show Living Dolls.
Halle has since gone on to become one of the world’s biggest actresses, landing prestigious roles, such as that of Bond Girl alongside Piers Brosnan.
