Emily Blunt And Ruth Wilson Fight For Leading Marvel Role
Hollywood actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are rumoured to be fighting it out to secure the leading female role of Ms Marvel in the upcoming Avenger’s sequel.
Despite the film not being expected for a release until three years away, casting for the sequel is said to be already underway.
The hottest role up for grabs in the movie is that of Ms Marvel, a role which the two actresses are eager to land.
Ms Marvel first appeared in the Marvel comics back in 1968, where she was known as Carol Danvers, Head of Security. The comics state that Ms Marvel is rescued by Captain Marvel, who has yet to appear in the Avengers film franchise, after an explosion occurs at a military base.
Ms Marvel then acquires some of Captain Marvel’s powers, turning into a female super hero.
Whilst Emily Blunt was initially favourite for the role, Ruth Wilson has now been labelled a strong contender, after wowing audiences playing a female psychopath in BBC drama Luther, which saw Idris Elba, who appeared in the Thor films, play the lead character Luther.
Filming for the Avengers sequel is due to commence towards the end of next year, with the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr all reprising their roles as Marvel comic book heroes.
The film is expected to be another blockbuster hit, with the first instalment raking in over $1.5 billion.
