David Beckham Plans Acting Debut Alongside Matthew Perry
It has been revealed that David Beckham is set to make his on screen acting debut, alongside Friends star Matthew Perry.
The soccer star has been handpicked by Perry to make a cameo appearance in his new US comedy TV show Go On.
43 year-old Perry announced the news that Beckham will star in his new show, stating: “We’ve talked to David Beckham and he said that he would do it, so that was very exciting.”
The NBC show will feature around Perry’s character Ryan King, a sportscaster struggling with the loss of his wife.
Perry is not the only person keen for Beckham to make a move to acting, close friend Tom Cruise has previously tipped Beckham as a future action movie star, when he said: “I’d love to do action movies with Beckham. He would be great, he could kick ass. I’ve been encouraging him to become an actor. He’s got the looks, he’s got everything.”
37 year-old Beckham has however, seemed slightly reluctant to try acting, admitting in the past he considers himself a terrible actor. However, Beckham need not worry that he has no acting experience for this role, as he is thought to be playing himself in the cameo appearance, alongside several other big sports stars.
Although no one else has of yet been confirmed for the show, Perry revealed he is in talks with ice hockey star Wayne Gretzky about making an appearance.
Meanwhile when questioned about who would be his dream sports star to join the show, Perry has his sights set on tennis ace Jimmy Connors: “My favorite athlete of all time is Jimmy Connors, so, I guess my hope is that we get Jimmy Connors to come back and work with me again, which would be a dream come true.”
