Confirmed American Idol Judging Panel Line Up Revealed
The official line up of judges for the new series of American Idol has finally been announced, with Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson, joining Diva Mariah Carey on the panel.
The announcement of who would join confirmed judge Mariah Carey on series 12 of American Idol has been the centre of much speculation over the last few weeks. It has however now been confirmed that she will be joined by an all-star cast, big enough to compete with rival singing talent shows The Voice and The X Factor.
Hip-Hop singer and rapper Nicki Minaj, was linked to the role of a judge shortly after Mariah was confirmed to be on the show. It was however reported that Nicki’s sponsorship deal with Pepsi, would cause problems with drawing up a contract, as the show’s sponsor is Coca-Cola. A negotiation between the two companies must have been settled, as Nicki has now been confirmed as a judge. This may be to the displeasure of Mariah, who reportedly stated she did not want to appear on the show alongside Nicki, as she wants to be the star female on the show, and younger Nicki has the potential to outshine her.
Country music star Keith Urban is the third judge to be announced for the new panel, a choice that is sure to please the large proportion of Americans who are huge fans of country music. Keith will no doubt bring his calming persona to the show to counter-balance any diva feuds, which may emerge between Mariah and Nicki.
News that record producer Randy Jackson will complete the judges line-up may come as a slight disappointment to some American Idol fans, who were looking forward to a completely revamped panel of judges. Randy, who has appeared as a judge since the start of the show, will make a return, following attempts to sign Latin music star Enrique Iglesias to the show falling through.
American Idol front man Ryan Seacrest will make a return as the presenter of the show, when it airs later this year. It was Ryan who announced the news of the new line up of judges when he tweeted a picture of himself with Mariah, Nicki, Keith and Randy along with the comment: “Its official, your new #IdolJudges are @MariahCarey, @NickiMinaj, @KeithUrban & @Yo_RandyJackson!” He went on to tweet later that evening: “Everyone gave a heartfelt toast about being on the show are we ate last night. Can’t wait to see the first contestants #IdolJudges”
