Christina Aguilera Discusses Album Flop
Christina Aguilera has revealed she doesn’t care if her upcoming album ‘Lotus’ flops as she only makes music for herself.
In an interview with MTV News, the singing diva opened up about her last album Bionic’s poor sales, attributing the flop down to her music being ‘ahead of its time’.
Christina was keen to highlight that if her upcoming new album Lotus follows in the footsteps of Bionic, she will not be worried, accepting the risk of alienating fans she makes by creating music that caters to her own personal tastes, rather than a more commercial sound.
In the interview 31 year-old Christina explained that after being in the music industry for years, producing popular hit singles, she finally has the freedom and control to take more risks, stating: “I’ve already put out a greatest hits record, so I’ve been in this business for a while, and I’m a risk-taker, that’s just who I am at heart.”
Acknowledging the consequences of breaking the popstar mould Christina went on to say: “With that comes hurdles and certain areas where people aren’t going to get it and understand it artistically; sometimes it will go over their heads and it will not be as commercially successful.”
Despite the new direction her music is taking, Christina revealed she feels her stint as a judge on talent show The Voice has allowed her to reach a whole new group of fans, who hopefully will be eager to purchase her new album when it’s released: “I wanted to make a record that speaks to those fans who grew up listening to my music yet reintroduce new fans watching me on The Voice. This is a really exciting time to show them both sides.”
