Angelina On Becoming Cleopatra
ANGELINA JOLIE has confirmed that she may soon take on the role of a lifetime as Cleopatra, but that it may be the last role she ever plays.
“We’ve been working on it. There have been lots of different ideas of directors and lots of different discussions,” she said. “It’s one of those that you feel like well, maybe that’s the one you put everything into and that’s where you end it, that’s where you finish. In a great way, what could you do beyond that one?”
Cleopatra was most famously played by Elizabeth Taylor, in a 1963 adaptation, opposite the man who would twice become her husband, Richard Burton as Mark Antony. The new adaptation has been linked to several talents – from Eric Roth who wrote Forrest Gump and The Horse Whisperer to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon director Ang Lee – which Jolie was able to clarify.
“Ang is working on another project,” she revealed in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live. “The script has been written by Eric Roth, who is a dear friend and a brilliant writer. But she’s complicated. It’s complicated to get this one right. But I think we’re getting there. It’s close, but I imagine the preparation for it is going to be big.”
